Whispers of Wisdom: The Dance of Phronesis

A poem by Professor Phronesis

In the garden of wisdom, where thoughts gently roam,

Lies Phronesis, a seed in the heart’s fertile loam.

Not mere knowledge of books, nor theorems so bright,

But a practical wisdom, a guiding inner light.

It blooms in the soil of experience and age,

Beyond the raw script of a scholar’s wise page.

A virtue, a skill, in life’s complex art,

The discerning of choices, the ethics of heart.

In the market, in court, where decisions hold sway,

Phronesis whispers, lighting the way.

Not in absolutes, nor in rigid cold rules,

But in understanding life’s ever-changing schools.

It’s the tailor of judgment, fitting each unique case,

With a thread of the moral, in time and in place.

A philosopher’s dream, yet a pragmatist’s tool,

In the dance of the real, it’s no theoretical jewel.

In the hands of the wise, it’s a compass, a map,

A light in the fog, a bridge over a gap.

A balance of reason, emotion, and will,

In the storm of existence, a beacon still.

So here’s to Phronesis, in life’s grand parade,

A mentor in shadow, in sunlight, and shade.

More than knowledge, more than mere skill,

It’s wisdom in action, an artful will.
